교환학생 학업계획서Statement of Purpose (선발후)

To whom it may concern,

   Please, let me introduce myself. Hello! My name is Hunjae, Lee. I have been at Yonsei since 2003 and now am a junior majoring in psychology. I applied for the Exchange Student Program with the following plans.
   First of all, this program will be perfect for fostering my academic ability. Merely earning for life overseas or gaining an impressive career is not good enough. Unlike many of the other applicants, I really want to engage in studies in the future. I’ve already worked for a year as a research assistant in the vision lab of our psychology graduate school. There, not only did I assist several experiments but also did my own research, which was posted in external conference. Now I hope to study abroad to broaden my vision at this time. It is important to experience various cultures and people for making creative ideas that should lead me to be an eminent scholar. The academic atmosphere of the world’s various universities is also invaluable. It will motivate me to redouble my efforts.
   Of course, everything is not as simple as I think. So I have done my best. As soon as I finished my military duties, I came back to school and took on my studies again right away. As a result, I won the top honors prize last spring semester with a 4.26 GPA. Although I still belong to the department of humanities, I’m currently resting from my studies at school for a while and am working for a game company as a computer programmer. Nothing is impossible. Having only 3 semesters left to graduation, I can graduate the beginning of the next year if I choose a course of the early graduation. However, not being content with my present condition, I need a new challenge.
    I have never studied abroad but I’ve participated in several international exchange programs; the “F3-Racing World Grand Prix, Changwon 2003”, where I worked as a part time interpreter, and “The Korea-U.S. joint military band concert”, in which I was one of the guides and so on – just to list a few. As most of my textbooks are written in English, I’m also very much used to studying in English. I feel confident that my participation in this program will result in a success.
   If you accept me to go abroad, I will concentrate on two plans in detail. At first I will open my understanding of the other cultures and races by making friends with the natives and joining a local social group. This can prevent me from limiting the range of understanding humans to Korean, which is the goal of psychology. I think exercising together or learning their customs will be effective ways to do accomplish this plan. So I will apply to courses about Sweden’s history or Swedish. Sports are also a universal language and I will enjoy playing games with many foreign friends. Second, I will try to acquire comprehensive knowledge about the newest trend of my major, psychology – Subjective well-being or the relationship between physical and mental/emotional health in the concrete. Sweden is a well-known country for its outstanding welfare policy and the Kristianstad university has lectures that can offer different aspects of global health challenges including Sweden and many other low, middle income countries. People can’t be happy from his sole effort in modern society. Many determinants of health and happiness are involved in social, economical, cultural problem. There are not only is the environment ideal, such as the leading scholars and well-equipped facilities, but also the local people living in comfort, whom I can observe and learn. This makes your university the perfect place for me to study. Even though I don’t have enough time to get expertise, I will register for an introduction course of my interest and make at least outline of academic career in my future. I’m sure that it is the most suitable rehearsal for me, an ambitious young man with will power, planning to go abroad to take a doctorate.
